META Creative Briefs Guide
Why Multiple Creatives Per Ad Set Matter
- Run multiple ads per ad set, not just one — this lets Meta's algorithm sequence different creative angles and proof points to the same user across multiple touchpoints.
- Most buyers need at least 2-3 impressions with different angles before converting. A single ad per ad set doesn't give users these additional opportunities.
- Single-ad ad sets waste reach: the algorithm shows the one creative once or twice, then moves on — missing users who were close to purchase but needed another nudge. (via @nathan.perdriau)
Structuring the Creative Brief
Build every brief around three separate decisions:
- Persona — who is this specific creative speaking to?
- Angle — what's the specific hook or narrative approach?
- Offer — what's being presented as the value exchange?
Each ad in the ad set should ideally vary one or more of these dimensions, so the sequence of creatives gives Meta real diversity to test and rotate against a given user.
What Makes a Brief Effective
- Clearly name the hook — the specific opening line, visual, or moment meant to stop the scroll.
- Clearly name the one main objection the creative needs to handle — don't try to address every possible objection in a single piece of creative.
- Keep briefs tight enough to give creators clear direction, but flexible enough that the final content doesn't feel overly scripted or constrained — the goal is organic-feeling content that still hits the strategic brief.
